Photos of Kerala (2011)
The second time I went to South India, I repeated my visit to the state of Kerala. Kochi (Cochin) has been drawing traders to its shores for over 600 years. The Chinese fishing nets in Kochi are spectaular when viewed at sunset. A 400 year old synagogue, ancient mosques, Portugese houses, and the remains of the British Raj influence, show what a multi-cultural place it is. Fresh fish is a highlight. Buy from the market and take it to a restauant to cook it for you! state has very high literacy (94% in 2014), and is the cleanest one I have travelled in. Its the state in which Indians like to take their holidays.
The spice plantations and the Backwaters are very hard to describe. They kept calling me back. Pictures paint a thousand words. Click here for photos of second trip to Kerala in 2013
