Turkey - Kusadasi

View of Aegean from Kismet Hotel

View of Aegean from B & B

Kusadasi, on the Aegean Sea, is where the large cruise ships dock and then travellers head for Ephesus.   When I was there, the ships were not in port, so was lovely to stroll around the little town. We saw the ships arrive just as we were leaving. I'm sure the small town changes a lot when invaded by ships full of tourists.

Kismet Hotel:  I loved staying at this hotel perched on a peninsula in the Aegean Sea. There are many places to sit outside and every room looks like it has a balcony with a view. They have what they call a beach, but more like an area to sit and enjoy being close to the water. It is about a 20 minute walk to the centre of town. Most people are there to explore Ephesus, Troy, and surrounding areas. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. Wireless didn't work in the rooms, but did in the reception area. There was a golf cart that will take you up and down the hill to the road.  The hotel might be a tad worn, but I could have stayed there a long, long time.

Our guide arranged for us to have tea at the Tastekne Konuk Evi Bed and Breakfast. Because it is about half way up the Mt. Ida, you would need a car to get there.  The rooms are all ensuite with lovely decor. All rooms have views over the hillsides or Aegean. I think all of them have their own private outdoor space as well as common outdoor and indoor spaces. The food we were served for 'tea' was absolutely delicious so I know any other meals would be terrific as well. Turkish people are known for their hospitality and it shines here. Owned by a delightful couple that speak English, the B& B, that they built themselves, is pretty spectacular.

If you are looking for a relaxing way to enjoy exploring this gorgeous part of Turkey, this would be it.  Note: Mt Ida is where the Greek gods watched over the Trojan War.
